Reasons Why I love the Envato Market

The Envato Market is an online resource for digital media and, at the risk of divulging a secret, I decided to post about why I love it. The reason that I like it is that its a one-stop shop for everything you need to get a project going quickly. Their homepage slogan is,  "Everything you need for your next creative project. Over 9 million digital products created by a global community of designers, developers, photographers, illustrators & producers."

Many of the projects that come to ForeverBird Studio are in the initial stages. This means that keeping the production costs affordable is a good idea because we might have to test three or more visual style concepts to find the right fit. Using stock art, like Envato offers, increases the production quality of the graphics from the outset. While I am a firm advocate for original art, I am also a designer, and I know that good design is intended to be replicated and utilized appropriately in harmony with many elements.

When working with new media, there are many technical details to consider. For the average Joe, it's challenging to distinguish one technology from another or keep up with all the industry-specific vocabulary. Another reason I love Envato is their categorization of media by technology. My clients can browse through the options of one specific shop without being overwhelmed by all at once.

There have seven different shopping areas, and I can share just one with a client, so they are selecting from appropriate options. The categories they offer are as follows:

Let me know what you think and if you have any other online platforms that offer quality digital media.

Why build a website 4 times?

Build a website 4 different times and learn something at each step of the process:

  • First site - HTML, CSS, TextMate, Firebug, and FireFTP
  • Second -  Dreamweaver, Wordpress, MAMP and Sequel Pro
  • Third - Wordpress install on a test server, PHP and database what?!
  • Finally - Live site! DNS and MX

Over the last 8 years I have collaborated on building over a dozen websites. Historically I've use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to create a web project package. Recently I took a leap by building my own project and learning to use some new technology. My first idea was to watch tutorial videos on for an overview of the whole process. Later, while trying to figure out how to fix my broken pages, I referenced w3schools and stackoverflow Q&A. When my test site was up on the web I used validation tools make my HTML and CSS standards complaint. Finally, to fix the problems with my wordpress theme, I used help pages on I'm sure that unexpected problems will show up and I will learn even more soon.

I also had to reach out for advice from several technically genius friends (Thank you!). Navigating the massive amount of information is easier when guided in the right direction. Designing a website is detail oriented work, requires lots of memorization, so the more you do it the better you get!

4 simple and free CMS websites

Today there are hundreds of websites that create personal pages for their users. Each site attracts an audience by offering something for free, saving your profile, and creating a valuable list of users with specific types of content. If you are design junkie like me than you probably have signed up for dozens of accounts across a variety of areas of interest. I'm optimistic that all the social revolution of massive data collection and organizing will lead to great things. Science seems to think social interaction has an impact on brain capacity... so that means we are getting smarter as our social circle grows... right? is amazing

It's the evolution of a resume. It displays information in graphics and links to your LinkedIn Profile too.
