TED Radio Hour, The Power of Design

Keeping up with innovation is easier thanks to the TED Radio Hour podcast.

Joe Gebbia is one of the presenters featured in The Power of Design episode. All of the presenters covered in the podcast are worth listening to. Learning about innovation and sharing of knowledge inspires me to work smarter while also reminding me of the joy of exercising new human skills and abilities.

I share Joe Beggia's experience of hosting. The first time I hosted someone from Couchsurfing I had the same feeling of anxiety about the guest. I consider myself a friend of all the guests I have hosted and I highly recommend hosting strangers.

The Power Of Design

Design is all around us, but much of it could be better, bolder, more elegant. This episode, TED speakers on the essence of good design in buildings, brands, the digital realm and the natural world.

About Joe Gebbia's TED Talk

When a stranger shows up at an AirBnB rental, what ensures that all goes well? Careful design of the website that brought them together, says Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb.

AFS programs foster transformation that lasts a lifetime

Imagine you are 16 years old and leaving home to travel to a new country without your family. Young students from all over the world have this adventurous experience each year with AFS, American Field Service. I learned about this program because I was named after an Iranian AFS student who lived with my father's family. In 1998 I moved to Italy for a year where I learned Italian and became a member of another family, that I cherish dearly.

The lessons of this international exchange are the foundation of my compassion for myself and others as we all move ahead into the uncertain future. Founded after WW2 this nonprofit organization is a solution to humanities challenges today. Because of challenges I experienced and overcame, I fully support this program and highly encourage you to participate in any form.

AFS programs foster transformation that lasts a lifetime. Today’s exchange students are tomorrow’s changemakers: diplomats; thought leaders; influencers in the international business and non-profit communities. Every new exchange student is another global citizen in progress—an individual primed to help build a more just and peaceful world. And the impact doesn’t stop with the students. Host families’ lives are transformed by new members from across the globe and host communities gain greater cultural diversity. That’s THE AFS EFFECT.

Yoga Girl's inspiring journey

Rachel Brathen is a yoga teacher and the author of the book Yoga Girl, which became a New York Times best-seller. "Yoga Girl" is also the name of Brathen's Instagram account, which had two million followers as of March 2017. This success has given her a huge platform and media influence. How did she do it?

I discovered her blog, From the Heart, this year. In the first podcast, she tells her personal story. This is an example of someone who has lived with authenticity and found success. The story is powerful in that her success is a model for other individuals seeking to live life in a new way.   She interviews others with similar stories of finding unique ways to live life. Check out Rachel's website to get the podcast:

Rachel is offering an even more intimate look into her life and the inspiring journey she is here to share with you. Weekly episodes of storytelling and talks from Rachel (sometimes alongside special guests!) will dive into topics such as love, trust, finding balance, overcoming adversity and of course, yoga and well-being.

Poster for Save the Mermaids!

I had an opportunity to help out a local nonprofit organization by creating a postcard design. The non-profit is  Save the Mermaids. They aim to bring information and news about the health of our planet to people in a fresh, creative, interesting way.

The Mermaids provided me with text and these 4 images to work with for the poster.
Version #1 is a simple black and white...
Version #2 is a 4x6 postcard that features the Mermaids, Club, and Bands...
Version #3 is a 6x9 postcard. This is the version that will be printed!
